KLÄNG! is back again: copyleft, non-profit, free music: all tracks and more online again: KLÄNG!
KLÄNG! was conceived as an ongoing series of cd compilations to present rarely heard sounds from all over the world and of all times. every body was invited to contribute whatever original and copylefted sound sHe wanted to hear: no limitations, no censorship, no copyrights. a free copy of KLÄNG! went out to every contributor, but all artists were asked to buy additional copies at prime cost to cover the expenses or to exchange copies of their own products with KLÄNG! in return. the idea was to have a free association of distributors and artists: the idea was to have exclusive, interesting music and sound and vision on an inexpensive medium: the aim of every new edition was to earn enough money to cover the cost for the following edition and to give away the rest of the print run in exchange for any thing or for free. – not a bad idea at all, but unfortunately the concept failed and the third edition was the last one.
more than 100 artists had their tracks released on KLÄNG at that time, about 50 more sent in their sonic devices but were only stuffed into the black holes of my hard drive. now i decided to potlatch all tracks online in my weblog spurensicherung (= securing of evidences): 110 tracks from the original releases, artwork, accompanying information and links to most artists and a growing number of tracks that were never released before.
find exclusive and copyleft tracks from these and more: jliat, wobbly, D-503, artificial memory trace, schrecklein, ralf wehowsky, anya lewin, albrecht/d., joshua nash, mikroben krieg, takanobu hoshino, stellatus, cock esp, modus, xtine burrough, speech.fake, mortmain(), lieutenant murnau, -outher acific+, andrea duwa, winston o´boogie memorial church, autofick, vok, günter schroth, suspicion breeds confidence, elena rauschenbach, brindle spork, stoned angelina, TôLE-ACHE, aeki, marc sloan, pix and (yes!) more.

wunschmaschinenklang

# it is very good to see posthumous tributes to derek bailey starting to appear, the first being a compilation put together by henry kaiser – with a fair bit of guitar playing and talking – featuring a number of bay area and other musicians, including a track with derek from 1993: domo arigato derek-sensei! on balance point acoustics. tony bevan has also just released one of derek’s last concerts in england: bruise with derek bailey on foghorn
# another excellent bay area-uk connection is on one of the new releases on emanem: supermodel supermodel featuring gail brand/tim perkis/gino robair/john shiurba/matthew sperry; the other emanem cd is an overdubbed piano set from howard riley: two is one. and further bay area connections via the latest bead special cd, a duo between philipp wachsmann and martin blume: pacific 2003. the other bead special cds added are also phil wachsmann duos, one with matthew hutchinson – startle the echoes – and the other with michael bunce: refractions in air
# alex ward’s copepod label is finally here with the first three releases: alex’s own hapless days; the improvising quartet of alex, luke barlow, simon fell and steve noble with help point, and the luke barlow band; also, there’s the three latest discs from ayler records: the lars-göran ulander trio live at glenn miller café; hammid drake/assif tsahar live at glenn miller café: soul bodies, vol. 2; and exploding customer live at tampere jazz happening

european free improvisation pages: update march 2006
please visit http://efi.group.shef.ac.uk/ for march 2006 good news:
* One of the most exciting events for me to have come across in the last few weeks is the impending release – end of March/early April – of a newly-remastered limited-edition (500 copies) 12 CD set from the ICTUS catalogue, including some previously-unreleased music.
* Dick Lucas has recently issued three new items on DATA: Futeristische historie by David Kweksilber/Winnyfred Beldman/Guus Janssen; Nansika by Sean Bergin’s Quintet; and the first DATA DVD release – on the DATA Images imprint – a wonderful record of dancer Michael Schumacher in duo with each of Han Bennink, Cor Fuhler and Wilbert de Joode: Triple Dutch. Han Bennink also appears in trio with Mikko Innanen and Jaak Sooäär on the Finnish release Spring odyssey and on A Records’ Blue & sentimental by Boris Vanderlek; also on A Records is Benjamin Herman’s Heterogeneity featuring Misha Mengelberg. And rather belatedly, but with thanks to Susanna von Canon, I’ve added Misha’s recent trio CD on Tzadik: Senne sing song
* There’s two releases each from several labels this month: on 482 Music – Taylor Ho Bynum & SpiderMonkey Strings with Other stories (Three suites) and Harris Eisenstadt with The soul and gone; on DUNS – Paul Dunmall/Paul Rogers/Philip Gibbs with Don’t take the magic out of life and Paul Dunmall’s Solo tenor; on Emanem Freedom of the city 2005 (a double CD); on Intakt – Brainforest from Jacques Demierre/Barry Guy/Lucas Niggli and Zentralquartett’s 11 songs – Aus teutschen landen; on Mutable – Homage from Thomas Buckner/Mel Graves/George Marsh, and The art of improvisation from the great Leroy Jenkins’ Driftwood; on Winter & Winter – wonderful to have a new Graewe/Reijseger/Hemingway disc: Continuum and there’s also a re-issue of the Paul Motian Trio At the Village Vanguard
* Single CD releases include: the George Burt/Raymond MacDonald Septet featuring Lol Coxhill with The great shark hunt (FMR); Birgit Ulher solo on Scatter (Creative sources); Michael Thieke Unununium with Where shall I fly not to be sad, my dear? (Charhizma); Theo Jörgensmann’s Fellowship on hatOLOGY; and De-escalation by Schweiger/Stangassinger/Boesze on Ostblock
* Finally a new book added to the bibliography: Barbara Schwarz’s The sound of squirrel meals: the work of Lol Coxhill for which there is a release party at the Red Rose in London on 14 March
* Several new gigs have been added during the month

“discogs” is a user-built database of music information. imagine a site with discographies of all labels, all artists, all cross-referenced. It’s getting closer every day. you can help build “discogs” by submitting information about missing releases, artists, and labels.
and here is some siemers i found…
